Stories Beyond the Familiar

Droichead Books is the home of the novels and fictional worlds of
Australian author Iain D. Bridge.

From ancient landscapes shaped by folklore and forgotten agreements, to dinosaur-filled frontiers, distant worlds, alternate histories and the complexities of contemporary relationships, the stories published under Droichead Books cross genres while sharing one idea: familiar worlds become far more interesting when something unexpected lies just beyond them.

The name Droichead comes from the Gaelic word for bridge — a fitting name for stories that cross between worlds, genres, histories and possibilities.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Iain D. Bridge

Iain D. Bridge is an Australian independent author whose work spans fantasy, science fiction, historical fiction, mystery, speculative fiction, contemporary drama and nonfiction.

With Scottish, Irish and English family roots, Iain has a longstanding interest in the folklore, history and landscapes of Britain and Ireland — influences that can be seen particularly strongly in works such as ALBA: Land of the Sidhe, while his Australian setting and experience inform other stories, including the steampunk goldfields of Golden Province.

His fiction ranges widely: from ancient landscapes shaped by folklore and forgotten agreements, to dinosaur-filled frontiers, distant worlds, alternative histories and contemporary relationships. Rather than writing within a single genre, each project is allowed to find the setting, characters and form that best suit its story.

Many of these stories have been a long time coming. Their earliest versions were written years ago and stored away on old floppy disks, waiting until the time was right to return to them. Some have since been rebuilt, expanded and reshaped; others began much more recently. Droichead Books is, in part, about finally giving those long-held stories the chance to become the books they were always meant to be.

Before the expanding Droichead Books fiction catalogue, Iain also wrote nonfiction. His book Psittaformes: Breeding of Colour Mutations in Parrots explores parrot genetics, breeding and the inheritance of colour mutations, drawing on another longstanding area of knowledge and interest.

Across fiction and nonfiction, curiosity remains a common thread — an interest in understanding how things work, where they came from, and what might happen when familiar worlds are looked at from a different angle.

FROM MANUSCRIPT TO FINISHED BOOK

Every Droichead Books title is developed beyond the manuscript by Iain D. Bridge. Alongside writing the stories, Iain handles the design and layout of each book, including interior typography and page design, cover design, maps and other visual elements where required, and the preparation of each title for publication.

This hands-on approach allows each book and series to develop its own visual identity while remaining part of the wider Droichead Books collection.

BOOKS AND GAMES

Some Droichead Books stories don't end on the page.
Selected worlds are also being developed as interactive experiences through Droichead Games, bringing characters, settings and stories from the novels into games.
